Part 1: Basics Completed!

Hello!

Okay, so I have completed Part 1: Basics.  I have covered "On Magic", "On Proportions", "Empowering Rites", "Ingredients" and "Creating Your Own Recipes".  Some of these sections were really interesting and others, well I skipped over because I've heard them countless times.  The section that was most interesting to me was "Ingredients".  It went over many herbs that will be used, how to find them and, if you can't, how to substitute them.  Really quite interesting.  Now, finding these herbs is going to be difficult for me because I live in THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.  The closest Whole Foods Store is in Lubbock, TX which is about 1 1/2 hours away.  Now that really isn't that far but I'm not too worried about the distance, it's the gas.  Gas is not cheap.  But I'd much rather drive somewhere and see the herbs myself and pick the ones that I want.  But some herbs I will have to purchase online since they most likely will not be found around here.  Herbs such as Asafoetida (can be substituted with tobacco), Gum Mastic, Oakmoss and Tuberose.  Now some of these can be substituted with other herbs, as with the Asafoetida.  I'm not even sure how to pronounce that.  But now I start on Part 2: Processing and Recipes.  This will be an interesting read and it'll enable me to figure out which recipes I want to start first.  But before I can dive right in and start playing Kitchen Witch I'm going to need a few things:

  • Mortar and Pestle
  • Large nonmetallic bowl
  • Small spoon
  • Censer
  • Eyedroppers
  • Nonmetallic Pan
  • Small funnels
  • Self-igniting charcoal blocks
  • Cheesecloth
  • Colored cotton cloth and wool yarn
  • Candles and holders
  • Large quantity of jars
Now several of these I can find at my friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart.  As for the rest, yeah.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Especially since I do not know what a cheesecloth is.  Joy.

Okay all you wonderful witches out there, until next time!

Merry Meet

Merry Meet and Welcome!  I am a witch and have decided to start practicing again.  I will be starting by reading Scott Cunningham's The Complete Book of Incense, Oils & Brews.  I will post my findings and views after each chapter.  Once I get to the part of actually creating I will post what I will be working on as well the ingredients and recipes.  I hope to be able to work these as I am not that good in the kitchen.  But who knows, I might be a closet kitchen witch, even to myself!  So the first chapter is On Magic.  Should be interesting.

Have a merry Christmas!!
